Hi
*|FNAME|*,
Welcome to
2021 and I wish you all have a great year. I hope you all had
a happy and safe Christmas and are enjoying a bit of a break.
Thank you all for your support last year, no matter how big or
small, we really appreciate it.
After all
the issues we faced in 2020 I wonder what 2021 will bring? In
the world of IT, I see security and remote work to again be the
two big areas of growth.
I'm currently
looking into ways in which we can help the local business community.
The aim is to host seminars and workshops to help businesses gain
some of the key skills that will help them grow in 2021. Stay
tuned for more information and if you have any ideas or suggestions
please let me know.
On a separate
note, I've been a member of the SMBiT Professionals industry group
since its inception in 2011. SMBiT is Australia’s leading
industry association for IT business owners and professionals
specialising in IT solutions for small and medium businesses.
In 2021 I will be serving on their committee to help local IT
providers provide a better service to their clients.
All the best
for the new year and if you would like to catch up for a coffee
please let me know.
Cheers,
David Perkovic

Security
Tips |
Security
is one of the most important areas in IT. It is also one of the
most overlooked areas, but if you lose all your data accidentally
or in a hacking attack what would you do and how much money would
it cost you?
This month
we will talk about security and how business have become very
lax about the area.
Many business
owners think that they are too small to be a target for hackers,
their antivirus software will stop any issues and that if they
do get hit it will be a quick and easy fix.
Well they
are wrong on all accounts.
1) Small business
are a target for hackers as they usually don't have adequate security
(thus are easier to hack than larger businesses) and are more
willing to pay to get their data back.
2) Antivirus
software only works against known issues. It won't stop hackers
or unknown exploits. A layered approach to security is needed
by businesses and staff training is essential.
3) Imagine
what would happen if you couldn't turn on your computer and /
or all you data was gone. All you accounting information, clients
files, proposals, quotes, templates etc all vanished. Do your
backups work and are they up to date or will you have to recreate
them? How much time is lost when you can't do anything and your
staff are sitting around with nothing to do? What happens if all
your clients data was exposed on the internet, will they trust
you again? How about your intellectual property exposed for all
your competitors.
The more preparation
and security layers you implement will help stop or restrict how
easy you are to hack and how much data you lose. Contact
us at DP Computing to evaluate your security.
